Hi Reader, Something pretty exciting happened at the weekend. I noticed a pin doing particularly well. (I know.... yes, I was working and watching stats on Sunday in between cooking the roast dinner). Now.... normally a pin takes about 6 months to work. But I have one doing VERY well after just 2 months. I suspect this will go viral in the next few months. January: Look how, by the end of January it's started to do well. In 4 weeks it brought 180 people to the website. February: But here's where it gets interesting. We're up to 1.5k website visits this month, and experience tells me this will be viral in a few days/weeks after a big bump at the weekend. Here's the pin, if you want to check it out. Now you can't guarantee a viral or popular pin, but here's what I do to ensure it could happen. #1. The Content. This refers to the blog post or page linked to the pin. For this particular pin it was fresh, brand new to the website and very relevant to the season. This was the first time it had been saved to Pinterest. This is a very important point. #2. Pin Design. It's a well tested design, clear and direct, plus I know it answers a big question that many pinners are searching for. I've tested this content before and it always does well. The 2020 version of this content is still a top pin today, 3 years later. #3. Keywords. I did a lot of research on the appropriate short and long-tail keywords to ensure they had good volume and weren't too crowded. I also used the AI tool in Tailwind to generate the description and tweaked it with my keywords. #4. Timing. This pin went out at the beginning of the year so it ranked in time for March when I know kitchen updates are happening. You need to give pins plenty of time to settle before expecting any kind of engagement. #5. Trends. Seasons and trends are important in Pinterest so it's worth watching them via the Trends tab. Find the time that your content will be most popular and save your pins 3 months in advance. #6. Idea Pins. They might not have outbound links yet (they're coming though!) but making Idea Pins will give your account a big boost and help support the rest of your pins. #7. Showing up. I know we talk about this a lot but if you want success over on Pinterest you need to be using it. That doesn't mean opening the app every day but spending an hour or so a week, scheduling daily pins - a new fresh pin and a few resaves each day will do it. Will this pin go viral? Well what's viral - it's all relative, right? But yes, I think this pin will bring 5k-10k per month to my website very soon. That's more than double my top pin at the moment. Other Benefits:-
Next week I'll talk about what to do with a blog post that has a viral pin. There are ways to capitalise on all that extra traffic - what's the point in finding the traffic if you don't do anything with it! If your Pinterest approach needs tweaking, or you're ready to get started, watch out for my announcement on Thursday this week - I'll share details of my brand new, all free, live Pinterest Masterclass. Much love, Jen x p.s. Here's what I do to ensure my pins have the chance of going viral - and it's paying off. |

Hi Reader, I had an email the other day from someone saying they'd spent a lot of time and money on Pinterest marketing only to see their results get worse. I hear this a lot. Monthly views go down, new pins don't get any clicks and any traffic you had disappears. It can be very frustrating. I also had a message from someone who'd given up on Pinterest this year, but suddenly had an old pin go viral. It's bringing 30k visitors to her website a month! Pinterest is different to a year ago. But...
