Is Pinterest worth it anymore?

Hi Reader,

I had an email the other day from someone saying they'd spent a lot of time and money on Pinterest marketing only to see their results get worse.

I hear this a lot.

Monthly views go down, new pins don't get any clicks and any traffic you had disappears. It can be very frustrating.

I also had a message from someone who'd given up on Pinterest this year, but suddenly had an old pin go viral. It's bringing 30k visitors to her website a month!

Pinterest is different to a year ago. But that doesn't mean it's no good.

Remember this:

  • New pins take 6 months to get going (this one is doing well from June)
  • Idea Pins are doing well and increase brand awareness

Pinterest is nothing like other social media and is much more like SEO. You invest time now for a return over the coming year.

If you've experienced a drop in views and traffic it could be seasonal or your pinning methods need reviewing.

Try this instead:

  • Don't look at your monthly views, only your outbound clicks.
  • Revamp your pin design and focus on keyword filled descriptions
  • Experiment with the number of daily pins

Is it worth it?

Yes. But only if you can update your strategy, have 1-2 hours to spend on it a week, and need another stream of website traffic.
